We collect what you tell us in an enquiry, we use it to answer you, we keep it only as long as we need it, and we do not sell it to anyone.

Who we are

Remarkable Ceylon is a travel studio based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. We are the controller of the personal data described on this page.

Formally, we are Remarkable Ceylon (Pvt) Ltd, a private limited company registered in Sri Lanka, company number PV 00323655.

Any question about how we handle your data can go to hello@remarkableceylon.com, and it reaches a person rather than a queue.

What we collect

Almost everything we hold is something you typed. There is no account to create and nothing on this site is behind a login.

  • Your name and email address, which are required to reply to you.
  • A phone number, only if you choose to give one.
  • The trip outline you set: dates, party size, travel style and interests.
  • Anything you write in the free-text field of the enquiry form.
  • Your email address alone, if you subscribe to the newsletter.

What is collected automatically

Separately from anything you send us, our host records standard server logs when you load a page. These include your IP address, which pages were requested and what browser you used.

We do not use those logs to build a profile of you, we do not connect them to your enquiry, and we do not attempt to identify you from them. They exist so the site can be kept running and secure.

Why we hold it, and on what basis

  • Your enquiry: to answer you and to plan the trip you asked about. The basis is that you have asked us to take steps before entering into a contract.
  • The newsletter: the basis is your consent, given when you subscribe. You can withdraw it at any time and every email carries an unsubscribe link.
  • Server logs and bot checks: the basis is our legitimate interest in keeping this site available and our forms free of automated abuse.
  • Analytics and advertising measurement: the basis is your consent, given through the cookie banner, and you can withdraw it at any time.

We do not sell your data, and we do not add enquiry addresses to the newsletter. Subscribing is a separate and deliberate action.

What you send us in an enquiry is never passed to an advertising platform. The only data those platforms see is what their cookies collect about your browsing here, and only when you have allowed them.

How long we keep it

  • An enquiry that does not become a booking is deleted after two years.
  • If you travel with us, your booking records are kept for seven years to meet accounting and tax obligations, and then deleted.
  • Newsletter subscriptions last until you unsubscribe.
  • Server logs are kept only for the short retention period our host applies to them.

Who processes it for us

  • Loops, which stores enquiries and sends our email. Data is held in the United States.
  • Vercel, which hosts and serves this website and keeps the standard server logs described above.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile, which tells a person from a bot on the enquiry and newsletter forms.
  • Google, for Analytics and Ads, but only if you allow analytics or advertising cookies.
  • Meta, covering Facebook and Instagram, and TikTok, but only if you allow advertising cookies.

Loops, Vercel and Cloudflare are processors: they act on our instructions and do nothing with your data of their own accord. Google, Meta and TikTok are different, and it is worth being plain about it. They decide for themselves how the data their cookies collect is used, which makes them controllers in their own right rather than our subcontractors. That is one of the reasons those cookies need your permission and the others do not.

Loops, Cloudflare, Google, Meta and TikTok are all United States companies, so using them means your data leaves Sri Lanka, and if you are in the UK or the EEA it leaves there too. Those transfers rely on the data processing terms and standard contractual clauses in our agreements with them.

Google, Meta and TikTok only ever receive anything if you have allowed the matching cookies. Refuse them and no data reaches those companies at all.

Cookies and measurement

Cookies that make the site work are always on. Analytics and advertising cookies are set only if you allow them, and nothing optional runs until you do. You can change your choices at any time from the cookie settings link in the footer.

The cookie policy covers what each one does, in detail.

Your rights

Email us and we will do any of the following. There is no form to fill in and we will not ask you why.

  • Ask for a copy of what we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct anything that is wrong.
  • Ask us to delete it.
  • Object to us holding it, where we are relying on legitimate interests.
  • Withdraw your consent to the newsletter, at any time.
  • Ask for your data in a portable form you can take elsewhere.

If you are not satisfied

Tell us first and we will try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to a data protection regulator: in the United Kingdom that is the Information Commissioner’s Office, and in the EEA it is the supervisory authority for the country you live in.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date shown at the top of this page changes with it.

Questions about this policy can go to hello@remarkableceylon.com , and we will answer them.
